Swift & Sons

I know I haven’t posted a new recipe in a bit, but it’s because there’s so many great places in Chicago I don’t have enough stomach capacity to fit it all.

Last week, I had the pleasure of going to Swift & Sons. The atmosphere is elegant but has these comfort classic feels with soft leather booths and beautiful rustic lighting.

I have been to all of the good steak joints in Milwaukee and this is my first Chicago steakhouse, so naturally I was excited when my girlfriend Sarah called me and asked if I wanted to go.

We started off with a cocktail at the bar and sat own for a 9:00 dinner.

To start, we shared 6 east coast oysters. (BEST oysters I have had in a Midwest restaurant, not to mention they’re only $1 at happy hour!) They were served with a cocktail sauce & house mignonette that was the perfect ratio of shallots and vinegar that made your lips pucker.

10/10 on the oysters, Swift & Sons.

We next had the goat cheese onion tart. SO much flavor. The crust was buttery and flakey and the goat cheese was perfect. My only complaint here was the tart could have been a tad warmer for me.

We split the 8 ounce filet, mushroom and mashed potatoes. The steak came with a trio of sauces- which I throughly enjoyed due to the fact that I can never decide on a sauce, it’s the indecisive Libra in me. (Creamy horseradish, house made steak sauce, and béarnaise??? I can’t quite remember the last one.)

The European butter mashed potatoes were the creamiest most lovely thing I have ever tasted. The sides are all very sharable. The mushrooms were amazing and very rich- perhaps would have gotten a different side since the potatoes were so heavy. So delicious and might I add, a texture explosion in your mouth.

After dinner we were stuffed but needed a little sweet, we had them bring over the dessert cart. Oh man was this wonderful. I got the macaroon that was dusted with tajin, (tangy Chile pepper seasoning) and the peanut butter fudge. SO GOOD. Like, does anyone else need just a little tiny dessert after dinner to round it out?

& then after we were three drinks in and the best part of the night happened… OUR SERVER BROUGHT OVER A MAGICIAN! He was incredible, like mind-blowing experience. The lovely magicians name was John and he was the perfect ending for  a fabulous dinner.

Swift & Sons is a must try, West Loop FAVE!

xx, your new Chicago Foodie.
